Hey Caddie

Hands-free mobile app with real-time distance alerts and comprehensive course data for golfers

Hey Caddie — UX design case study for a voice-first golf companion

In our journey to revolutionize the golfing experience, we developed Hey-caddie—a hands-free mobile application designed to provide real-time distance alerts and comprehensive course data to golfers.

Challenge:

Developing Hey-caddie meant addressing the inherent difficulty of delivering precise, real-time data in an outdoor, fast-paced environment. We faced the task of integrating sophisticated features such as GPS-based distance tracking and hands-free voice activation, all while ensuring that the app maintained optimal performance and security. The challenge was further compounded by the need to accommodate diverse user scenarios, from the straightforward needs of an amateur golfer to the precise demands of a professional player. Additionally, we had to design a system that could adapt to various devices and operating conditions, ensuring seamless operation even in offline mode or on wearable devices.

What We Did:

Our goal was to empower users with critical information through intuitive, voice-activated commands, allowing them to focus on their game without distractions. By meticulously outlining both functional and non-functional requirements, we set the stage for a solution that is as innovative as it is reliable, built using modern technologies and robust design principles.

Product design portfolio context on the course

Hey-caddie was conceived as a response to golfers constantly shifting attention between the course and their devices. Research benchmarked against leading solutions like 18Birdies, Golfshot, and Hole19 guided a balance of simplicity and advanced functionality for amateurs, seniors, professionals, and wearable users alike.

UX design case study artifacts and early interface explorations

Journey maps, competitive signals, and low-fidelity explorations helped align stakeholders before high-fidelity polish—reducing rework when GPS, voice, and offline constraints surfaced in testing.

Dense research panels that stay legible on review

Wide compositions document personas, comparisons, and flows in one place so product, design, and engineering can agree on priorities before build—critical for a sports product used in bright sun and quick sessions between shots.

High-fidelity UI for maps, account, and voice moments

Our process prioritized secure registration, real-time GPS, and voice-activated commands on a modern stack, with iterative refinement from feedback and testing—so the UI feels calm when the round is not.

Deliverables that translate research into shippable screens

The MVP delivers intuitive account management, distance tracking with voice activation, 2D course mapping, and shot and score tracking—with documentation and automated tests supporting a roadmap toward hazard alerts and deeper stats.
